Mud, Sweat, and Gears
Xuantunich

Our second full day in Belize started with a ride across the café-au-lait-colored Mopan River aboard a hand-cranked ferry that could accommodate just two of our trucks at a time. Our destination was a smaller group of Mayan ruins known as Xunantunich, which boasts a number of remarkable pyramids dating back to 600 BC. After touring the grounds, our group huffed it up the steps of the 125-foot tall pyramid known as El Castillo, from which we enjoyed a 360-degree panorama once reserved exclusively for Mayan rulers.
